Apple Watch (Dotpilot Pro)

Privacy

Dotpilot for iPhone and Apple Watch and this website · Last updated: October 18, 2026

In short: your habits stay with you – on your iPhone and, if you turn it on, in your private iCloud. The app has no account, no server of its own, no ads and no tracking. I receive no data from you.

What the app stores – and where

Everything you enter in the app is stored on your device:

The app’s own widgets and shortcuts read this data on the device. None of it is sent to me or to anyone else. The app contains no analytics or advertising software.

iCloud sync (Dotpilot Pro)

With Dotpilot Pro you can sync your habits between your devices via iCloud; you can turn this off under “Backup and export”. When it’s on, Apple also stores the data listed above in your private iCloud database. Only your Apple ID can access it – I can’t. Apple’s privacy policy applies to storage at Apple.

Apple Watch (Dotpilot Pro)

Your iPhone sends today’s status (names, symbols, colors and progress of your habits) directly to your paired Apple Watch, and the watch reports check-offs back. This runs over the connection between iPhone and watch, without a server.

Reminders

Reminders are local notifications: your iPhone schedules and shows them itself, without a server. They contain the habit’s name and cue. Whether they appear on the Lock Screen is up to your iOS settings.

Siri and Shortcuts

If you check off a habit with Siri or a shortcut, Apple processes the voice input under Apple’s privacy policy. The app itself only writes the entry on your device, and only once your iPhone is unlocked. Lock Screen widgets hide your habit names while the iPhone is locked.

App Store purchase

Apple handles the one-time purchase. I never see your payment details or Apple ID. The app only checks on the device whether the purchase exists. Apple gives me sales reports without personal details, such as country, product and proceeds.

Backup and export

A backup (JSON) or table (CSV) is only created when you ask for it. The backup contains all entries including notes, the table only the values. You decide where the file goes. When restoring a backup or importing a table from another app, the app reads the file on the device only.

Like other apps, this one is included in your device backups (iCloud or Mac) if you have backups turned on. Apple’s privacy policy applies to those.

Photos

If you share a habit as an image and choose “Save Image”, iOS asks for permission to add a photo. The app does not read your photos.

Crash reports

If you allowed iOS to share analytics with app developers, Apple provides me with crash reports and usage statistics. They are anonymized and cannot be traced back to you.

Beta testing with TestFlight

If you use a test version through TestFlight, Apple shares with me the name and email address you were invited with. It also shares your device, iOS version, crash reports and any feedback you send yourself. I use this only to find bugs. The legal basis is your consent to take part in the test (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). After the test I delete what is no longer needed.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection (Art. 15–21 GDPR). Since I receive no data from you through the app, this mainly concerns the beta test and emails to me. You delete your data in the app yourself by removing the app.

You can lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example the one where you live (Art. 77 GDPR).

This website

This website sets no cookies, embeds no external services and loads nothing from other servers; even the fonts are served from here. Whether you see it light or dark is remembered locally by your browser (localStorage); it never leaves your device.

The server delivering the website briefly stores the IP address, time, requested address and response code of each request to detect faults and fend off attacks. These logs are deleted after 14 days at the latest. The legal basis is the legitimate interest in secure operation (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Contact

If you write to me, I use your email only to reply and delete it once the matter is settled.
